grimble-nibitz Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 It kills me that I have seen this in books and have no recollection what it is...its almost 5 inches tall, high grade manufacture, blue wool with metal backing plate like a WWII arm shield award...much in this estate lot was Bavarian and Wurttemberg...am I close?
IrishGunner Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 This is the sleeve badge for the "Kaiserschießpreis für die Artillerie 1912" English: Kaiser's Shooting Prize for Artillery Awarded for excellence with their weapons. It's a unit award.
grimble-nibitz Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 I assume this to be a sleeve shield, where exactly was it worn? Seems like more than a marksman award, was it given during maneuvers like those big pre-war ones? THANK YOU, its been driving me bats.
IrishGunner Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) I do not know if it was awarded during the annual maneuvers (although that makes sense). I'll have to do some more digging. I have an Prussian artillery handbook lying about somewhere; perhaps it mentions criteria. In the meantime, have a look at this thread; it has some photos of the badge being worn. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/55462-question-on-kaiserabzeichen-koenigsabzeichen/?hl=kaiserabzeichen Edited April 10, 2013 by IrishGunner
KIR Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) This is the sleeve badge for the "Kaiserschießpreis für die Artillerie 1912" English: Kaiser's Shooting Prize for Artillery Awarded for excellence with their weapons. It's a unit award. Hi, it's the "Kaiserabzeichen" (or "Kaiserpreis"), it's a unit award for a company or a battery. With the Kings-crown there are artillery-units from Bayern, Württemberg or Sachsen possible: Kaiserpreis (Schiesswettbewerb von 1895 bis 1913) – GenWiki The "Kaiserschießpreis" is a special kind of lanyard (Kaiserschnur or Chefschnur - here Nr. 10 or 11). The Prussian Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) Here I have two examples. Don´t worry about the 2nd photo. It shows the Feldart.Rgt.43. They didn´t get the prize, so the soldier with that badge might be from another unit Edited April 13, 2013 by The Prussian
