drclaw Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Here are two Manchukuo documents that were sold on Yahoo Japan Auctions for considerable amounts. Interestingly both bear the personal signature of Emperor Puyi next to the large red centre seal. Chinese Republic award documents often bear the signature of the President while Japanese documents do not bear the Emperor's signature I believe? I'm not familiar with Manchukuo award documents so would anybody be able to suggest what award these were for? First set. fukuoka Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 The first one is for the Order of the Pillars of State 2nd Class. The next is for the same decoration, but 1st Class.
drclaw Posted April 28, 2013 Author Posted April 28, 2013 Thanks very much Rich! These are certainly beautiful documents with a historically important signature.
fukuoka Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 The first class doc was awarded to Kaya Okinori when he was Minister of Finance.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okinori_Kaya
fukuoka Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 (edited) The second class doc belonged to a man named Hata Yuzaburou. I am unfamiliar with this person. Edited April 28, 2013 by fukuoka
JapanX Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Here are two Manchukuo documents that were sold on Yahoo Japan Auctions for considerable amounts. No wonder! Doc's for pillars the state are very rare Chinese Republic award documents often bear the signature of the President while Japanese documents do not bear the Emperor's signature I believe? Of course they are, but only the higher classes (currently only 1st classes + order of rising sun with paulownia leaves + order of chrysanthemum (grand gordon + chain))
JapanX Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 A couple of examples of japanese documents with Emperor signatures Hirohito http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/56023-lieutenant-general-yamada-seiichi-and-his-document-for-1st-class-sacred-treasure/ Taisho http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/56414-5th-class-golden-kite-document-for-tsingtao-siege/
drclaw Posted April 28, 2013 Author Posted April 28, 2013 Thanks Nick. It's hard to imagine Taisho signing all 3000 Golden Kite certificates for Tsingtao. Would I be right in thinking only the higher classes were signed by the Emperor?
JapanX Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Golden Kite was a very special order, that's why Taisho personally signed documents for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 classes while documents for Rising sun and Sacred treasure orders were personally signed by this Emperor only in 1,2 and 3rd classes.
