muckaroon1960 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 (edited) Bought this WW1 Training Grenade from a local collectibles/antique shop. It is dated on the bottom plate 1916. Made by S.B & Co Ltd and is a mark 5. There are also some casting marks on the main body. Striker, spring and primer are all there and it does work as, in it strikes the "Inert" primer. I have researched the S.B & Co but cannot find any information on the net? Edited May 11, 2013 by muckaroon1960
muckaroon1960 Posted May 11, 2013 Author Posted May 11, 2013 (edited) Other view of the grenade showing filler cap. Looks like someone has tried to remove it in the past? Edited May 11, 2013 by muckaroon1960
Brian Wolfe Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 A very nice addition to your collection. This is the first one of these I've seen though inert specimens of the "real deal" seem to abound at local shows. I hope some of the members who know more about this will post. I am wondering if these might be quite scarce. Thanks for posting it. Regards Brian
Tony Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 This site shows a few different kinds of practise grenades, mentions S B & Co but doen't say anything about the maker http://www.millsgrenades.co.uk/No5mk1grenades2.htm Tony
