JapanX Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 (edited) Saw this group at one american medal forum. It belonged to Admiral William Kearney Phillips and was sold on eBay about a year ago. JapanX Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 The most interesting part of this group (for us )
JapanX Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 8th class? Or maybe 7th? Go figure... Anyway, 8th (or 7th) class of sacred treasure to the Admiral?! Seriously?! Ok. 8th (or 7th) class of sacred treasure to the Captain (during WWI)? Hmmm... By the way, this group was sold for $2000
Jareth Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 could it just be a souvineer made up by one of his soldiers as a victory gift?
JapanX Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 (edited) Yes, this is one of the possibilities ... But then again he was high ranking navy officer! Shouldn't he expected something like golden kite breast star as a victory gift? And this additional attachment pin... Very bad sign! I think somebody wanted to create an illusion that our Admiral actually wore this order. As far as I understand seller offered this set as 100% original ... Edited June 29, 2013 by JapanX
