i thought id start a new and hopefully interesting thread!as we all know(or should know!!),is that some German ribbon bars can be ID;ed, interestingly British bars can also be ID;d to!however just like with the German ribbon bars you will always get a ribbon bar that fails to be ID;ed despite having a unique combination of awards!so with that in mind i thought i post some from my collection to see if anyone could maybe get an ID and if other people want to post theres please feel free!who know it might throw some interesting results!!!

first up is a really nice bar that HAS to be to a high ranking officer! with the last ribbon being the commander of the legion of merit it narrows it down to 170 people who were awarded that in ww2,then with the CB DSO 2 MIDs and the mons star there should get an ID but so far after after checking WO373 and trying to cross referencing them with officers who served in ww1via ancestry i cant find a match!can anyone suggest another avenue or source?

next up is a bar to a maybe high ranking officers bar again it has the legion of merit commander grade, now its the LACK of awards that to me means i should be able to get an ID but again no luck!its been suggested its a brigadier who helped in ww2 say in the D Day landing due t the F&G star!can anyone suggest any new way to get an ID?

Paddywhack - some really good bars, and some excellent awards. I think that you probably have members scrambling through

Careful trawling of Marion Hebblethwaites volume's on the GC may well reveal the answer she give bios of all GC winners, I suspect there were very few who got the GC and served in Kenya. I first of all thought of Ian Henderson who got a Mau Mau GC but he wasn't born until 1927 and therefore is discounted by the WWII service

The book is called One Step Further and is in 9 paperback volumes and lists every recipient of the GC and gives full biographical details if you contact the author Marion Hebblethwaite at marion-h@thequarryhouse.co.uk she will be able to provide you with a set.

    All the best,

    Paul
