France Unknown Legion Etrangere Medal

I am thinking about buying a French Legion Etrangere medal, but I have never seen it before. Does anyone have any information on this? I am interested in what it was issued for, if it is semi-official, about what date it was issued/awarded, and, if possible, an approximate value.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
