muckaroon1960 Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Whilst enjoying the British Summer on my vacation to Somerset I found this latest addition to my USA medal collection in a Collectibles/Antique shop. Soldiers medal for valor on a loop suspender brooch. Been after one of these for sometime, It is un-named and un-numbered.
Guest Rick Research Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Wonder if it was awarded to a Brit at the end of the war? The Soldiers Medal has not been degraded like so many other American awards, so still roughly a "George Medal." Our local fill-in radio guy, Colonel David Hunt (sometimes seen on the Fox TV news) got one for jumping on a grenade during practice--that's where his husky voice comes from. May not look like much, but this one still means something when it turns up on somebody's uniform.
Ulsterman Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 That is a nice older one. Yeah, the soldiers' medal, basically a life saving award, is still given sparingly. A buddy of mine in the USMC who is retiring this year said its one of the 3 medals he has that actually matters.
