paul kennedy Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I just received this wound badge, and am wondering about the lump on the reverse (in the sword hilt) and the wear on the side. Can any one help me? Is this an okay badge? I'm less concerned about condition than originality. Thanks in advance.
Jock Auld Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) Looks ok to me? These things were mass produced and not always perfect. Hinge and pin seam ok leaving a blob on the reverse and a small bit off the edge of the blank when struck, not the end of the world or the war at that time? Production flaws are common. I think a good copy of the black wound badge is not much cheaper than an original? There is a very good copy with a very narrow edge doing the rounds, probably as thin as yours at the narrowest part of the flaw, thats a cheeky one to watch for. What I like is the brass (tombak) peeping through on the pin. Jock Edited March 21, 2014 by Jock Auld
J Temple-West Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I agree with Jock... certainly an original example. As to the crustiness...well, it's just that.
