    nice hard permanent green lacquer-enamel on zinc as awarded in 1917. The 1916s were chemically smoked bronze, and the 1918s were just zink.

    This is one of those awards that by statute was ONLY to be awarded

    when no other WW1 Bavarian award had been bestowed already and

    was no longer to be worn when any other Bavarian award WAS bestowed

    but very often they ARE worn like this, quite fairly indicating rear and front merit.
