astro Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Hi all, very new to the forum, so sorry if I am not too clued up on the different terminology of the forum, but here goes. I have inherited a medal from my grandfather. It is in 100% mint condition with Navy / Royal Blue ribbons and four clasps or hooks attached. the medal says in a circle in the centre THE INSTITUTE OF CIVIL DEFENCE. Then under that it says FOUNDED 1938. On the reverse of the medal it says 'Awarded for services rendered (31). I was just wondering if anyone has any more information of this medal as it was not my grandfathers as he inherited it from a gentleman my grandmother worked for. Many thanks in advance Steve

peter monahan Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I wonder what services one would render to be eligible for that very attractive medal.
Mervyn Mitton Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I must be honest and say that I've never even heard of this Group. They must be like an advisory body now. Steve - not sure if we welcomed you to GMIC - keep the questions coming. Mervyn
