paul kennedy Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I received this medal today, and am concerned with finding cast marks on the sides. Weren't these die struck? Is this medal bad? Thanks in advance. Paul
paul kennedy Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 It looks quality in hand, but you can see the sides have lines, etc.
paul wood Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Does the line go all the way round the circumference, if so sounds like an electrotype. Paul
paul kennedy Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) It's on one side then disappears in the edge at the bottom. The other side has the irregular pattern. It also does not have the Paris Mint mark on the reverse. I've seen others that do not. I also read that the first medals were made in London. Edited July 28, 2014 by paul kennedy
Hendrik Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Hi Paul The earlier type, manufactured outside of occupied France, is easily recognizable as the lettering on the reverse is quite different as can be seen in the picture below ... As you see, there are different sizes in existence. Regards, Hendrik
