Bernhard H.Holst Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Hello Jock.. Etappen Sammel Kompanie Bernhard H. Holst
IrishGunner Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Etappen Sammel Kompanie What kind of unit is this...what was it's function?
Bernhard H.Holst Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Hello Rick. I can only guess that it was an established rear area collection point for un-attached, straggler type personnel. I have never before run across that , so-named unit. But to have it established makes sense to me. Conditions during the last year or so of the war made such collection points necessary, in my view. Chip Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 If I'm not mistaken, these units were charged with collecting usable battlefield debris (helmets, field gear, unspent ammo, metals, etc.). Items were collected at various points for sorting and shipping to recycling centers. Chip
Bernhard H.Holst Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Hello Chip. Your explanation makes a lot more sense than my guess. An expedient way of collecting raw material and/or reuseable equipment and such. Bernhard H. Holst
