jonsey2001 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Greetings, I have had these since last summer. I am seeking some opinions, pertaining to authenticity. If anyone is interested in close-up pictures I will take more and add them later. Kind regards, George
IrishGunner Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Sake cups have always captured my curiosity and I've pondered picking up one artillery-related; I look forward to when an expert jumps in with clues about authenticity.
Brian Wolfe Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Hi George, I have a fair collection of these and yours certainly look authentic to me. From what I understand there are so many sake cups on the market due to their popularity that reporducing them would not be profitable. Thanks for posting them and I hope others with more knowledge than I have will respond. Regards Brian

Pick up a copy of Dan King's book, and be sure to familairize yourself with Rich's website, probably nobody more knowledgeable about sake cups than Rich or Dan.
mickey Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 hi all a couple of artillery cups from my collection for the irish gunner I really like the Krupp heavy gun cup nice detail, I did a bit of research on the Krupp heavy guns used by the Japanese they purchased over a 100 from Krupp for use as fortress defence around important Japanese sea ports over 20 were dismantled and sent to port Arthur during the russo Japanese war to reduce the Russian fortifications
IrishGunner Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I don't want to totally hijack George's thread, but those artillery cups are fantastic, Mickey! Do you have an opinion on the authenticity of George's cups in Post #1?
jonsey2001 Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 Don't worry about me. They are much more interesting.
mickey Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Jonesys cups almost certainly genuine with what looks like naval themes nice cherry blossom bases

For a newbie, can you please give a URL for Rich's Website and a Title for Dan King's Book? I have a bunch of both this kind of Saki cup (many in the shape of a WW2 Japanese Helmet), military saki bottles, and some of the larger red lacquer flatter saki cups, all of which I picked up in the orient in the early 1970s. I'd like to find out more about them. Edited December 24, 2015 by Doc

Doc Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Thanks, Mickey. I'll do some digging before deciding to dispose of them-- I need to understand what I have, but they don't really fit into my Cold M1911 passion.
