Odulf Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 To the Marine-HJ sailor's hat, next dates apply: Official uniform established 15-01-1934: Light blue tally with white (silver grey) Latin lettering in capitals, and the HJ diamond. Alteration of 30-09-1938: The style of lettering on the light blue cap tally changed from Latin to Fraktur (Gothic) in white (in silver grey) script, and the (gold) colored cap eagles are to be removed, so only the HJ diamond remained. Alteration of April 1940: Coloring of the letters changed to golden-yellow. Photos show that the abolition of the eagles took some time...
Marine HJ Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Good day, I'm an enthusiastic collector of cap tallies and have been specialised to MHJ tallies for more than a decade. However, I resumed to collect the other German pre-45 tallies due to a poor offer on MHJ tallies. I more or less agree completely with your last post, Odulf, but the part "Alterations of April 1940" you need to explain a bit. I have gathered information of close to 700 different Mhj tallies being existant at the time. Also I have more than 160 Mhj tallies in my collection. And another 300 different tallies on period photographs. I never came across a genuine Mhj tally with golden or yellow lettering. Three comments to this: 1. The Berlin tallies for sale at a dealer in Hamburg have originally white lettering and were painted over yellow. I have eyeballed them myself when they were still with the owner prior to the dealer. 2. The "Frw. Wehrfunk Gruppe Marine" is Gold on blue, but this was a group of Mhj participants under the umbrella of the Km for the duration of the course. 3. The very early gold-on-black "HJ Oberbann Berlin West" is believed to have belonged to Kriegsmarine liaison personnel. Could you please clarify where you conclude from the lettering has been changed to gold-on-blue ever? Rgds Daniel
Odulf Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 Hi Daniel, Thanks for your evaluation. That particular scrap of info (about the gold lettering) can be found in: "The HJ", Vol.1 by J.R. Angolia, p.293 [1st Edition, 1991, R.J.Bender Poblishing Co.]
Marine HJ Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Many thanks. I don't have an issue of this book in my personal library. Could you please post an image of the particular passage? Rgd Daniel
Odulf Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 I don't know if I can do that without breaking the copy rights
Marine HJ Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Well, you are not publishing the whole book and you will announce the source where it comes from. That's in my opinion a similar thing to a quote. Rgds Daniel
Odulf Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 Well, I suppose that is so Daniel... I see now also, that the introduction of yellow lettering is an assumption
