Fourragere Ferret Question

Hello everyone,

I have a question about the ferrets (sometimes called "pencils") on the French fourragere.  I have some with brass/bronze ferrets and some with silver ferrets.  Is there a significance to the different colors/materials used?

Hi,

 

it is the same like the rank chevrons.

Infantry wear gold chevron and golden ferrets, Cavalery wear silver chevron and silver ferrets.

Hello all

I have some fourrageres with fancy ferrets, rather than the plain one. Are these prescribed by certain regiments or strictly at the discretion of the receipient, or possibly for officers?

Also, what is the significance of the (usually) 2 single strands?

Maybe you do not have a fourragere ferret, you do have a ferret of an aiguillette. These are worn on the other shoulder an are no Croix de guerre decoration.
