Dazza_22 Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 My grandfather served in the Royal Army prior to, and during, WW2. I have his military records and his medals are listed as per the picture below. I have identified 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star with 1st Army clasp, Italy Star, Defence Medal and 1939-1945 War medal. My question is relating to the note at the top right hand corner of the clasps box. Can anyone identify what that note is referring to? It looks like the date it was sent was in 1940 which is prior to the award of any of the other medals. I'm stumped and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it. Daz
QSAMIKE Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 This looks like just some notes put on the record either by the Regimental Clerk or Medals Records Office and may be only understandable by them IMHO....... Mike
peter monahan Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 The other possibility - I can't get a good enough look at the entry on my computer to read it clearly - is that the reference is to the authorizing order, in which case the numbers may be either the date the clasps were authorized for issue, the date all clasps to WWII stars were authorized or not even a date at all but a reference number. Just a thought.
