ID Requested Please

Was advised this should be posted in this forum.

Received this for Christmas from my son. I'd appreciate any information, (i.e, Unit designation, meaning of red stripe, authenticity based on inside markings, etc.) It had a tag inside that said "German Army", nothing else.

As Mervyn once said, "Your family spoils you Ed".

Hello Ed

It appears to be a Luftwaffe cap, minus the eagle.

Regrettably I don't know enough about caps to say if it is genuine or not.

 

If the piping is red (it looks brown on my monitor) if would indicate "Flak" and if Brown it would be for "Signals"

looks similar to one I have, What colour is the underside of the peak?  I think they tend to be green but as ever not always!

Hello Ed

 

Flak, it's the abbreviation for "Flugabwehrkanone" and is German for AA gun.

 

Red was the waffenfarbe for AA

No green under the Peak. So then, do I have an ARMY Artillery hat?

No it looks to me like mine a Luftwaffe Signals NCO cap.  The Flak piping is a stronger red colour so I think signals (orange red colour) ie a radio or telephone bloke.  You just need an eagle to complete it.
