Pvt. Kelly Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Hi everyone. Can anyone help identify this Iraqi medal set? I served in Iraq (2005-2006) but I picked these up stateside from another soldier who served in Iraq in 2004-2005. They are all in one display box and I have not even opened the box; however, I am sure the box has been opened at one point. Can anyone tell me more about them, what they say, or who would have been given these awards? Thanks, Scott Close up.
oamotme Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Scott, In brief they are, left to right: Ramadan War Medal - missing central enamel/paint - incorrect ribbon. Active Service Medal - either Monarchy or Republic - damaged - missing lower rifle butts - incorrect ribbon. Mother of Battle Medal. War Wounded Medal - incorrect suspension & ribbon. Kind regards, Owain
paul wood Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Owain, are they normally of this rather poor quality? Paul
oamotme Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Paul, No - other that the Mother Battle medal which was locally produced, the others if found mint are decent medals of assorted European manufacture. These appear to be a motley selection of poor condition pieces put together as a souvenir which of itself is fine but as stand alone medals they are fairly worthless. Regards from Riyadh, Owain
Pvt. Kelly Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 Owain, Thank you for identifying them for me. I didn't think they looked correct compared to others I have found in this forum and on this website. These came with a few other items, including Iraqi rank boards and branch insignia. Thanks, Scott
