Dankelman Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 The attached photo is a medal that belonged to our beloved Opa, found when going through his estate. He never mentioned it. He was embittered by the Dutch Navy when they took away his ship and gave it to Indonesia after he has spent years fighting smugglers there, which he would never discuss either. He was so upset he moved us here to the US. We're having trouble identifying it with Internet research. He also had a Bronze Cross (2), a Cross for Order and Peace (1947, 1949) and a Mobilization War Cross, which we did identify. Any ideas? His great-grandsons are most curious. Thank you, gentlemen. Dank
Jerry T Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 This medal is Belgian, not Dutch. It is the medal of the order of Leopold II. It should have a blue ribbon with a black center stripe. Yours has the ribbon of the British War Medal (WW I)
