Ross Mather Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I thought that I would share photographs of two Barry Dock Police tunic belt buckles that I have been able to add to my collection over the years. Exceptionally rare and both with Victorian crowns. As you can see they vary slightly in design and construction. I counted myself exceptionally fortunate to find one about 15 years ago (the worn one). A month ago I was fortunate enough to purchase the second one, which has not been worn through polishing. Barry Dock Police (Wales) was formed when the dock opened in 1889. The Barry Dock & Railway Co. changed its name to the Barry Railway Company in 1891. I believe that these buckles may pre-date 1891.
Polsa999 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 (edited) Hi Ross I think that it was October 1858 that the Bute Dock Police was formed and issued with cutlasses,, although the early docks did have watchmen. It was first headed by Supt. Daniel O'Brien Gavin, a retired military man. Well done on the find. Best wishes Steve Edited April 3, 2016 by Polsa999
Ross Mather Posted April 3, 2016 Author Posted April 3, 2016 Hello Steve. I do also have Bute Dock Police insignia.....but this post refers to the Barry Dock Police - not the Bute Dock Police. Ross
