    Guys,

Any ideas about what this bloke would have done?

These are three different sub unit titles that are used in his Militair pass and EK prelim doc?

    Cheers

    Please see pic.

I am not sure about what exactly they were up to?  Was he in a balloon looking down or what?  Was he simply surveying gun positions from the ground?

    Hello Jock.

I believe that the unit is "Lichtmesstrupp" not Luftmesstrupp. They were beginning to implement science in locating enemy artillery positions  by measuring light, sound and such  to more effectively locate and impede or if possible silence the enemy guns.

In WW II methods became even better. I am not that knowledgeable on the subject but in a number of tables these units appear again and again.

    Hello Jock and Bernhard!

Yes, it´s Lichtmeßtrupp. We see that term in the stamp too.

The Artillerie-Meßtrupp was set-up in semptember 1915, and renamed in Lichtmeßtrupp in november 1917.

The Artillerieie-Meßtrupps worked for the field- and foot-artillery. Until 1917 there were 177 Meßtrupps.

A Lichtmeßtrupp had 5-6 survey stations (11 NCOs and men) and one central survey office (leader, 2 lieutenants, 27 NCOs and men)
