Kriegsmarine tally (arm?) (original?) - scharnhorst

Hi Gents

i got this as part of a job lot. For about a quid!

the back looks different to more modern tally I have seen but I really know nothing about these.

there are two sets of three little holes each just either side of the writing which line up if it were pinched together not tucked inside. I'm guessing an arm  tally wouldn't have the 'tails' hanging 

but

its only just over 2ft (66cm ish) so surely too short for a cap tally.

I like it whatever.....

There is a known fake for the Scharnhorst.   It is known as the "Belfast" fake as it was sold nearby where the HMS Belfast resides.  It has fooled many collectors.  The tip with Scharnhorst tallies is that they need to be not cut (100cm or longer) in any way or made with metallic thread.  The one you shown has the tell-tale sign of being a Belfast fake.  I am sorry.

im sorry I somehow missed your reply until now. Belated thanks...

since I posted this I found a thread on here somewhere that described the Belfast tallies....

The description matched mine in all detail it provided. 

So, I agree with you Sir, it's one of those.

It wasn't matching a genuine tally from the start so I'm happy that its more than just a modern rip off I think - so I'm not disappointed....
