Can someone help me identify these post 1947 Indian units on medals

Can some kind person please help me identify the units / regiments on my collection of Indian medals please?  And what the DMT is on the Sainya Seva medals too please?

Samar Seva Star to 1028409 Sowar Chaban Singh, A.C.

Pashimi Star to 10196214 Sepoy Dijan Singh, T.A.

25^th Independence Anniversary Medal 1947-72 to 13933876 Sepoy Driver M. Singh, A.M.C.

Sainya Seva Medal with ‘Jammu and Kashmir’ bar to 127237 DMT. Puran Singh, Artillery.

Hi Duncan,

The abbreviation on your Samar Seva Star stands for, I think, Armoured Corps. This would fit with his rank being Sowar which was originally a cavalry rank.

Sorry I can't help with the other abbreviations but hope this is some help anyway.

The 'Regiment of Artillery' has over 60 batteries, so the simple name is not much help.  'A.M.C.' is probably 'Army Medical Corps'.

I agree that 'AC' is most likely Armoured Corps but not sure about 'T.A.'

Is the 'DMT' a rank or a unit designation on the Sanya Seva medals?

That's not a bad thought, Duncan!  Well done.

 There are some very odd ranks in the modern IA, as there were in the old Imperial organization and even though they tend to be in English, puzzling them out can be a real challenge, especially when one adds in all the 'para'-police/army units and civvy employees who seem to qualify for gongs too!

TA is Territorial Army, as the name suggests, it's a "localised force" who stay put in one area and pretty much know the terrain and the villagers etc pretty well.

DMT is 'Driver Mechanical Transport'. It is technically a trade and not a rank, but is sometimes used interchangeably so. (:
