Ralph A
I bought this case in the hopes that one day I might figure out what it was intended to hold. The odd, elongated cavity for the jump loop intrigued me.
Ralph A
In the meantime, it serves to protect this Prussian/Hohenzollern dingus quite well. Edited April 8, 2006 by Ralph A

Kev in Deva
A stopwatch was my guess. But, no...my guess an Austrian Franz Joseph early type Tapferkeit medal with fixed silver oval ribbon ring. Kevin in Deva.
Josef Rietveld
my guess an Austrian Franz Joseph early type Tapferkeit medal with fixed silver oval ribbon ring. Kevin in Deva. don't think so, no austrian box-type (but that is not decisive) and the older silver bravery medals till 1867 or the golden ones have an much more oval ribbon ring.haynau
Ralph A
I had concluded the case fitted some obscure veteran's organization piece or the like, when this showed up:
Ralph A
Saxe-Altenburg Tapferkeitsmedaille. Now to find an early-war bronze or coppered-zink one for the other case, and I'll have a nice set; the Hohenzollern piece will be evicted.
Stogieman
Bronze one has a different ?se... probably both cases held zinc ones. Sweet find!

David Gregory
Ralph,That Altenburg medal is in nice condition, but the ribbon seems to be for a Saxon service award. The Altenburg ribbon had equally spaced stripes.Good luck in your hunt for an early bronze version of the medal, which tends to be expensive, but they do sometimes turn up on German eBay for a song.David
