Interesting Imperial German Medal

Gentleman,

I recently obtained this medal and was hoping those in the know could tell what it was issued for.

It looks like it is a Veteran's medal but I'd like a little more specific information on it If I could. I thank you in advance for any help you can provide me with.

Probably for a fraternal/societal membership. There's literally thousands of variations of this type of membership medal/badge and no way to know what was what other than the occassional piece that shows up with some type of document/membership card. As a society, the Germans were pretty fascinated with "awards".
