Mark McM Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Gentlemen, Any positive ID on this badge? Quite high quality, hallmarked under the rooster....
peter monahan Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 The 'cockerel' is one of a number of badges of France, with the Liberty Cap, Fleu-de-Lis and so on. Given that it is silver and the general outline, I'd guess this is a piece of patriotic [civilian] jewelry, akin to a sweetheart pin, but that's just a guess. The shape is a bit odd for a military badge, IMO. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallic_rooster
Mark McM Posted August 22, 2018 Author Posted August 22, 2018 thanks Peter! Good point... though it seems kind of robustly constructed for a sweetheart or patriotic piece. Still, it’s quite a nice badge!
