Chris Boonzaier Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Can anyone guess what makes this so rare?
IrishGunner Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Since you highlighted the Feldpost stamp of the Jaegerregiment zu Pferde Nr, 12, I am guessing something to do with that unit. Sept 1916 they are at Verdun, right? Perhaps the fellow with the white ribbon in his buttonhole is someone famous?

As the Staff was still able to function and knew the terrain, the combat elements of the Division were sent to the Argonne and came under the command of the 33rd Div, while the combat elements of the 33rd Div were sent to Verdun to fight under Alpenkorps command... this only lasted for a couple of weeks or so the the complete Alpenkorps was sent to Romania... So this was only possible for a couple of weeks in 1916... I am not sure if these are under thew Alpenkorps command at Verdun or under the 33rd Div in the Argonne. I assume the guy with the white ribbon is detached from the Alpenkorps staff...
IrishGunner Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 So, I was close then with the Sept '16 Verdun guess.
