Hi, Can anyone confirm for me did WW2 SAAF aerial photographers wear a SAAF half brevet or an RAF one? I have been told that the SAAF one was difficult to obtain so the RAF half brevet was used instead. If so which one would have been used as I don’t think there was a direct equivalent?
    Many thanks,

    Paul

Hi, I can confirm that the SAAF did have a Aerial Photographer half wing, reference C149 in Colin Owen's book "The Military Badges & insignia of Southern Africa. The LF (Lug Fotograaf) is the Afrikaans for AP (Air Photographer).

As to scarcity and using the RAF wing I am not able to answer your question, except that those SAAF personnel seconded to RAF units were known to at times wear the RAF equivalents on uniform
