JustinH Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 Picked up another QSA today awarded to Pte. E L Morris of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Unfortunately he was killed by accident when a sentry with a work detail mistook him and shot him at Bothaville. Along with the medal is some research, including a Court of Inquiry about the incident and his father asking for more information about the incident along with the return of a silver pocket watch. The Court of Inquiry summarized "I am of the opinion that No 6473 Pte E Morris 1 Royal Welsh Fusiliers met his death through misadventure and through no fault of the officers in command of the working and covering parties - Lieut. C.R. Johnson R.E., or the sentry who fired the shot which killed Private Morris. Private Morris was on duty when he met his death." Pte. Morris is commemorated at the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Boer War memorial in St Giles Church, Wrexham, Wales and the Welsh National Boer War memorial in King Edward VII Avenue, Cardiff, Wales 3
