I am just a newbie in here and really astonished by wisdom of the users. So to create a list that anyone can collaborate to create such astonishing list about orders in the countries.

My dream is making a list about the highest orders in each countries. Let me start some of them and really happy to see your contrubitions.

The highest Ottoman order was the Nişan-ı İmtiyaz (Order of Distinction).

 

France's is indeed the Légion d'honneur.

 

The problem for this list is that the "highest" decoration is not well-defined for many countries. You may have a single one, like France's Légion d'honneur, or you may have a highest civil honor and a highest military honor. And there are other distinctions.

 

For the United States, the Medal of Honor is the highest military honor, while the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal are the highest civil honors.

 

For the Kingdom of Bavaria, the highest chivalric order was the House and Knightly Order of St. Hubertus (Haus-Ritterorden vom Heiligen Hubertus), the highest military honor was the Military Order of Max Joseph (Militär-Max-Joseph-Orden), and the highest civil honor was the Merit Order of the Bavarian Crown (Verdienstorden der Bayerischen Krone). For your list, the St. Hubertus would be the main one.
