Is a countersunk area with raised letters a bad indication of originality?

I have observed a few marked as such. E.Schmidthaussler Pforzheim. (Please correct if spelled wrong).

I have seen this also on a R.D.KI. stickpin. The recessed area with raised Ges. Gesch. something.

 

What is the proper term for the recessed/countersunk area?

Personally I have no problem with Schmidhausler using this type of mark, for some reason they used a whole host of different styles, from the usual standard raised letters to individual letters being stamped out with a dot punch.  However, that said I would be cautious if it was a different maker...

Thank you, Don.  I was thinking this had passed muster a long time ago. Age makes me forget and the myriad of repros makes me slightly paranoid. 😵
