USA decorations engraved For Display

I have recently come across a US Distinguished Service Cross and a Distinguished Flying Cross both engraved on the reverse  in capitals FOR DISPLAY, does anyone have any idea about the status of these pieces. I have tried googling but with no success, mind you if you googled Chimpanzee you would probably get " Aaron B Chimpanzee was born in Brownsville Texas October 5 1928".

 

Any help gratefully received.

I would imagine that they are given/sold to museums for display purposes, or maybe to military bases...

These were sent to Museums, Collectors, and Veteran Groups as wall display items - They have some value but not as much as an awarded medal
