Carl XVI Gustaf's anniversary commemorative medal (IV) on the occasion of the 50-year government anniversary

On the occasion of his 50-year reign anniversary on 15 September 2023, HM the King has instituted a new commemorative medal. The medal was established in court protocol on April 28, 2023 and is awarded to the Royal House, the Royal Family, as well as court officials and other permanent employees of the Royal Courts, as well as others who deserve it.

The medal is embossed in gilded fine silver and on the reverse side is provided with Ernst Nordin's profile portrait of HM the King with five golden stars symbolizing the past 50 years, as well as two crossed spruce branches. The reverse side features HM the King's monogram, the years 1973–2023 and five golden stars. The medal has five corners, symbolizing the five decades, crowned by a royal crown and worn in the light blue ribbon of the Order of Seraphim with five gold stripes marking the 50 years of reign.

The commemorative medal is manufactured by Svenska Medalj AB in Eskilstuna, where the toolmaker Stefan Siljemar has made the digital model for producing the medal. Great importance has been placed on the craftsmanship in terms of details of both originals and miniatures, which took place in close collaboration between the Royal Maj:ts Orden and Svenska Medalj AB.

Great care has been taken in the design of the so-called Gustafs crown (introduced in 1952), where the cross of the cross globe is hand-filed, which makes the cross stand out clearly and the highly polished edges enhance the general impression. The band mountings follow old Swedish tradition: the men's band is folded straight, which makes the cross of the cross globe clearly visible, and the women's rosette is mounted with classic bevelled ends.

The medal is abbreviated CXVIG:sJmtIV and 695 have been distributed.
