South African Prisons Service Awards (1968 - 1980)

Only 3 awards were instituted in 1968

    1. The Decoration for Valour in the South African Prisons Service (CPV)

    2. The Medal for Merit in the South African Prisons Service

    3. The Medal for Faithful Service in the South African Prisons Service

According to a former General of the SA Prisons Sevice, the late Gen Piet Frysen, only 7 bravery decorations were awarded. Only 1 member received all three awards.

I'm previledge and honoured to have that set in my collection

The Decoration for Valour in the South African Prisons Service (CPV)

Instituted on 26 February 1968 and  discontinued in 1980.

Awarded for conspicuous and exceptional gallantry, or acts in which a member of the Prison Service risked or lost his life attempting to save others.

According to some source only 7 were awarded, but others said 12. I only mentioned what was said to me

There were 2 pins on the back of the suspender, that stick through the ribbon, but they broke of very easily
