joaobr Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Hello gentlemen, I found this MKIII with a paint job with some numbers and an "FD" painted on the front. Would anyone know what the FD refers to? It is also possible to see that it has already been repainted and has some paint marks underneath. Thanks

Thanks “Produced from 1943 onwards, the Mk III, offering a better enveloping shape than the Mk II, retains its predecessor's liner. It was not used in actual combat conditions before June 6, 1944: on D-Day, the 'Turtle' helmet was worn by British and Canadian units involved in the first wave of the amphibious landings” Hi Joaobr going by the seam of the rim I would say these markings are on the back of the helmet. If no one else recognises this I’d be tempted to say it’s British Royal Artillery. In the British army FD is an abbreviation for ‘Field’. The number, if it is a British service number, was used by the RA. The Royal Field Artillery amalgamated with the Royal Garrison Artillery in the 1920’s or 30’s (certainly before ww2 began) Perhaps this marking was a way to differentiate 🤷♂️ tony 🍻 ps This is a 1944 helmet on a French site. it also has FD on the rear. 1
