Von Thronstahl
Is it possible to find out soldier/sailors name with a POW number? I have an German soldier estate and he was POW in Cairo. I have this bracelet with a number. Number is 42324. Are there any lists I can refer to?

It’s so frustrating that no matter how specifIcally I entered details for Google to search, I used a million different ways to try and get some mention of ww1, 1918, Cairo, pow camp, for Germans, records etc etc.., it still just gives me ww2 stalags and internment camps in Dover and similar bollucks I didn’t ask for. Useless. Anyway… so I went direct to National Archives. It claims British records of ww1 prisoners were destroyed in ww2 https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/prisoners-of-war-british-hands/#4-first-world-war 👇 Then I went to the Red Cross site https://grandeguerre.icrc.org/en/Camps 👇 It seems they still have comprehensive records for WW1. Many many lists, the map above shows the various Cairo camps. If you are still looking for your man I think this is the best shot. Best of luck VT 🤞 cheers tony 🍻
