oamotme Posted December 3 Posted December 3 Good Morning, I am delighted to announce that Spink have published my latest book - see link below. In A4 hardback format with over 350 pages, some 220 plus awards and some 500 images. I hope it allows those interested a decent overview of the honours system of the UAE, its various ministries, constituent Emirates and charitable foundations. I attach a flier of the same. oamotme Posted December 3 Author Posted December 3 Megan, Enjoy - the book will fill up the UAE part of your website! Owain
heusy68 Posted December 3 Posted December 3 Hello to all. I got the book since its presentation Thursday 28 November, and it's a top notch book, that everyone who has interest in the topic should purchase. I recommend it. Beware there is only 350 copies printed, so do not wait too long, in the risk to be too late. Soon it's Christmas. Regards to all. Emmanuel
Megan Posted December 4 Posted December 4 We need for the publishing industry to crack out of these limited priint runs. Sure, there's limited interest in specialist areas, but information is like muck, of no use unless it is spread around. Print-on-Demand and PDFs are the way to go, after a limited print run if such is desired. Easier to update when new information comes to light, too!
Megan Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Temptation has got the better of me, order placed. My Christmas present to myself 🤓
oamotme Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 Thank you Megan. My books of earlier this year - on Ethiopia and Somalia, were published by TFL Publications on a print on demand basis - the former a hardback and the latter a softback, and I am delighted with the quality of both. The UAE book was a project sponsored both by Spink and Fattorini - both manufacturers of various series of UAE awards, and thus is a historical record for both companies. As a researcher and writer my view is that once something is in the public domain via, for example, a book or the Journals of the OMRS or OMSA or even via posts on the GMIC website, then the information is open to all. Megan Posted December 5 Posted December 5 Wonderful words, Owain. Books and articles, well-researched, are excellent for information and also provide pictures to help in the never-ending quest for good images that I can use. At least I know what I am looking for! Good to hear about the Ethiopian and Somalian books, I think I've blown the book budget for this year (yours is not the only book I've bought) but if they are on PoD, maybe I can get them next year! And I'm beginning to get into writing myself, although in my usual butterfly way there are 3-4 in progress right now (East Germany, South Africa, Greece, and maybe Colombia - having difficulty with images for that one - if anyone is interested). Hoping that the Christmas break will provide time to get at least one ready... 🤞
Megan Posted December 12 Posted December 12 My copy arrived yesterday. Busy day, didn't have time to do more than flick through, but it looks glorious and all that archical material! Fortunately I have some leave coming up... review will be forthcoming and will be posted here in due course.
