Russia has now been producing one of its latest State Medals.

Presenting: Jubilee Medal "80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" Established on the 2nd of September, 2024 by Presidential Decree №743.

Of course, it will be awarded to the same people for the same reasons as the previous jubilee medals have been awarded. It is uncertain if there will be any special awards issued, like the previous jubilee medal being issued to Supreme Leader of the DPRK - Kim Jong-Un, or to those who served in the Arctic Convoy, that are still living. Those who were alive for 2015 were able to be awarded one of the highest governmental awards, the Medal of Ushakov. However due to the political issues of today, the 80th Anniversary medal might not be awarded to these heroes.

There seems to have been deliberations over a period of time regarding the design of the medal, and ribbon. In April of 2024, this was the first released images on the design: see that it was originally a red ribbon, with the ribbon of the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st Class on the right half of the ribbon.

Sometime later, it was officialised in a Decree from the Presidential Office of the Russian Federation, on the 2nd of September. Signed by Putin. Here was the official design approved:

Now we have half and half. Half - Ribbon of St George, and Half - Ribbon of the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st Class. The medal itself has seen very slight changes. It was only recent that official medals were photographed, after Goznak/MMD began the production. Here are some photographs. First, the medal itself!

Here are several on trays, ready to be mounted on the pentagonal blocks.

Medals are being inspected for any faults, or blemishes.

And most interestingly, and surprising to see… the medal die! Notice the absence of the Hammer and Sickle, which tells us that it could be made of enamel, or even printed onto the medal, like what was seen for the 70 Years Jubilee Medal.

There will probably be more photographs and videos coming out. I am trying to look for some, but they are unavailable, or failing to connect. I will post more information here as soon as I can. To find such info, you can search the name of the medal in the Russian language. One of the best places to read is the official website of Goznak.
