Created in 1900. There is a lot of evolutions.

The latest one dates from 2017. 

Previously, the silver medal was the lowest grade, awarded for 20 years of seniority. After 2017, a lower grade was created, the bronze medal, to reward 10 years of seniority.
The ribbon changes on this occasion : it has 3 blue/white/red stripes instead of 4.

Here, as an illustration, are some medals resulting from these reforms (mine in this case) from 2017 :

Silver for 20 years

 

 

The French Firefighters Medal of Honor has the possibility of a higher grade for exceptional service, with a different ribbon. It is divided into three classes (silver, gilded and gold)...
