Noor Posted Wednesday at 23:21 Posted Wednesday at 23:21 Hi all, Picked up this. Like I understand it's an Order of San Hermenegildo but can some confirm how common it is and from what period. I assume 1930-1970s? Thanks for your opinion TT
Antonio Prieto Posted Thursday at 15:19 Posted Thursday at 15:19 This is the Cross of the Royal and Military Order of San Hermenegildo, with this crown for the period approximately 1938-1951... but that rear cap doesn't match, as it bears the cypher of its founder, King Ferdinand VII in 1814. It looks to me like a Danish crown or something similar, not a Spanish one. This this the actual cross https://www.coleccionesmilitares.com/medallas/texto/rmosh.htm
Noor Posted Thursday at 22:01 Author Posted Thursday at 22:01 Thank you for your answer! That's odd now because seems to me that the crown haven't been played around. Anyhow, thank you!
Noor Posted Thursday at 22:13 Author Posted Thursday at 22:13 (edited) two more pictures if any help By the way, same crown can be seen here: medalla cruz de san hermenegildo epoca de alfo - Buy Antique Spanish military medals on todocoleccion Edited Thursday at 22:18 by Noor
Antonio Prieto Posted Friday at 16:25 Posted Friday at 16:25 Yes, the crown over the arm of the cross, among other aspects, is what can identify the period of the piece at first glance. - Royal crown on pieces from the monarchical periods - Mural crown from the period of the Second Spanish Republic (1931-1939). - So-called imperial crown, open royal crown, in parts from the period of the Spanish State 1938-1951 But I repeat, this rear cap does not correspond in any case to this cross
Noor Posted Friday at 18:12 Author Posted Friday at 18:12 (edited) Odd piece so. Can it be a foreign made/restored award? Was the order issued to foreign officers as well? Many thanks again for your input on this. Edited Friday at 18:13 by Noor
Antonio Prieto Posted Friday at 21:07 Posted Friday at 21:07 No, this order is only to reward officers since 1814 of the Spanish armies for their impeccable conduct and constancy in service (25 years). NCO's since 1994. I imagine, like the photo in the other piece in the link, that it has lost its rear cap and they replaced it with this one, which has nothing to do with it. Plate of 1864 Republican type. No royal attributes
