Guest Rick Research Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Now in a local collection, formerly mine and scanned by me: [attachmentid=40505]This is a classic SAXON style mounting: bow bottomed like the Prussian style only without the padding and with straight, parallel sides to the ribbon mounting. The yellow backing is unusual and makes me wonder if it was worn on some light colored tropical clothing-- though the steels went primarily to stay at homes who simply waved the expeditionary forces bye bye. Perhaps this was a tropical-run passenger ship crew member?Closeups of the medal:[attachmentid=40506]
notned Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 Nice Medal Rick! I just love that type of mounting...So this sort of mounting is known as the 'Saxon' type of mounting??So my one is the Bavarian type...right?CheersPaul
