JBFloyd
The short answer is that they are items currently being churned out in China for the tourist trade.
ANDY BUTKUS
Thanks for the quick reply....They look old and the dates are pre cold war on most of them...Are they aged to look this way?
Ulsterman
Yes they are deliberately so aged-see my thread from about a month ago.If one does a google search under "Chinese medals star" one will find a series of B-to-B sites in translation. One of them is a badge/medal/insignia company in Taipei which makes these and has a few in their pictured ads. The ribbon is the key-fake red silk between two rectangles. They are showing up on ebay as well. Edited July 9, 2006 by Ulsterman
Guest Rick Research
One tip off is that the PRC Civil War period suspensions are mixed and matched with any old thing-- these being the Other Side's!!!! Originals will NOT have that "crusty" look. 3-D patina is another sign of fantasy items, along with the plastic shower curtain "ribbons."
ANDY BUTKUS
Thanks for the info on these less tham desirable medals..They didn't cost me much so no great loss..In fact the lesson was well worth it...He has a few more, but i won't be buying them. Guest Rick Research
Yeah, when you see these it is usually in BULK. I have seen BOXES full of this junk--and that's ANOTHER tipoff.
