Gordon Williamson Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 Don,I've had several original Schott badges and one thing they all had in common was that the reverse face wasn't smooth but was covered in fine scratch lines. I'm guessing this was from the brass stamping being held against a linishing belt to smooth off the rough edges.Every original I have seen has been like this. The reverse of the one you show looks smooth but it isn't a terribly clear shot.
Stogieman Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 Don, my concern is the pin. It should not be the wide/flat one on yours, should look comparable to the one Gordon is showing. Most of the fake ones I have encountered with this maker mark have this heavy/flat pin.
dond Posted May 27, 2005 Author Posted May 27, 2005 Thanks guys. I also tried to match it to the ones in Detlev's book but couldn't.Don
dond Posted October 14, 2005 Author Posted October 14, 2005 Here is another one I would like comments on please.thanksDon
Stogieman Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Looks like classic Steinhauer & Luck, with worn fire-gilt.
dond Posted October 14, 2005 Author Posted October 14, 2005 Well, that sorta makes me feel good because I thought it was real. I just didn't bid enough on it. At least I'm learning.Don
Stogieman Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 There's a thread in the back pages (try a search) with several posts of different examples of both original styles of badge. Give it a whirl!!
