As nicely as they were produced, they did lack some quality when compared to their "real" medal counterparts. I suspect it had to do with the amount of time they were worn on (typically only for the duration of the festivities) but more importantly with the price. Which is why we see some of those in 'tinnie' quality (semi hollow), something that can't be said for even something as common as most shootingor various civil service medals.
