Chris Boonzaier Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 This piece is A1 ok.....But how did the markings get into the hat?
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 The cockades are not the sew on types but seen to be on splints or split pins.Needless to say, I am a very happy boy to have gotten this...
Chip Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Chris,I assume that the wool is feldgrau and not graugr?n?Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 16, 2007 Author Posted June 16, 2007 The XVI was the "argonne" Korps... in late 1916 the Alpenkorps high command stayed in place in Verdun while the fighting troops (the large % of Bavarian J?gers were included in these)were pulled out to reform and re-equipe... in the XVI Korps area. The fighting troops of the XVI Korps passed under the control of the Alpenkorps. So with the stamps in this we can narrow it down to a specific month and a half in 1916 when they were getting kitted out and reformed in the XVI Korps area before leaving the western front for Roumania :-)
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 16, 2007 Author Posted June 16, 2007 I can only make out the guys first name... will try and scan it today sometime...
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 16, 2007 Author Posted June 16, 2007 Here you go....I THINK Alois Lindenmaier on the top...M?nchen sonething strasse on the bottom?
Chip Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Chris,I think it's a good thing that this strictly Bavarian J?ger style cap was made in M?nchen. Don't you? I think this lends more credibility to your theory. Had it been made in the XVI corps district, it would surely make one wonder just what was going on.Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 16, 2007 Author Posted June 16, 2007 Hi,did the non Bavarians wear something different?BestChris
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 Just picked up a postcard written from a bavarian Leib Regt/Alpenkorps guy in the Argonne during this period. What is really cool.. in a strange kinda way... this piece has to prove itself... it is not a one looker with logical stamps. On the French forum a guy said "Hmmm... the Alpenkorps guys were not in the Argonne"... So you really need to do a little research to find out how this worked... and it makes the final result just that much sweeter... :-))
Fritz die Spinne Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Chip, you said the "in between sizes" were almost entirely a Saxon quirk, if I am not mistaken? But Saxons also tended to use a greenish lining, correct?
Chip Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Yes, it's a feldgrau color lining. I have two Saxon caps with half-size marks, a 54,5 and a 57,5. Chip
