Awarded to Sargent Fizer Anatolii Dimitrievich Commander of Tank Force Unit.

Order of Red Star was awarded by by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet..

12. Merits for which it is to be awarded: Service in DRA took place in 1986. During this time he participated in 8 operations in destruction of insurgents.

On 25 October 1986 near the village of Qarabagh, a group of insurgents fired on the column. Having been given the order to conduct the battle, skillfully commanding the crew of the tank, Sergeant FIZER A.D. opened fire using standard armament of the tank.

During the battle 4 enemy gun emplacements were destroyed, the rebels retreated, provided an opening for the column.

On 20 December 1986 while conducting operations near the settlement of Charikar, in composition including Sergeant FIZER, unit came under fire by rebels using rifles and DShK large-caliber machine guns. He quickly and competently assessed the situation, and skillfully using the terrain, Sergeant A.D. opened fire on the enemy. During the course of action 3 enemy gun emplacements were destroyed, but during a change in firing position Sergeant FIZER A.D. received a penetrating bullet wound through the back and into the abdomen.

Conclusion of Higher Command

Conclusion: For courage and bravery shown in the implementation of combat assignment is worthy of state award “Red Star”

This is very very interesting. I wonder if-- by that stage of the war-- anyone killed in action who could have a similarly laconic (!) citation written up was bestowed a posthumous Red Star?

Contrast the citation of this Red Star with one from 8 years earlier to a Soviet divisional commander just before the start of the "real" Afghan war--

A Colonel commanding a division which achieved suppression of resistance in three provinces got one in 1980 (and much delayed, at that!) and a teenaged draftee Sergeant got one for a fatal wound during a skirmish in 1987.

We've had a few other Afghan war researched awards. This one suggests an inflation of awards similar to what happened during the Great Patriotic War, with early recipients basically being screwed by later standards.

VERY interesting to see a posthumous award made here. The regulations concerning such things must also have been changed to reflect the political situation.
