JapanX Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 (edited) Let’s talk about this interesting series of medals that were issued in commemoration of the 1100th year since the capital was moved to Kyoto by Emperor Kammu in 794 (marking the beginning of the Heian period) and the building of the Heian Shinto Shrine in commemoration of this event. Yep. 1895 A.D. it was ... Type I “Round” “Turquoise ribbon” Edited June 1, 2013 by JapanX
JapanX Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 The inscription at obverse reads Sampai (Shinto Prayer)
JapanX Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 (edited) The reverse inscription (from left to the right) reads Heiansento (Transfer the Capitol) Sennenkinensai (1100th Year Anniversary of the Capital Foundation) Kyosankai (Support Association) Meiji 28 Nen (1895) Edited June 1, 2013 by JapanX
JapanX Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 “Red ribbon” Same medal, but different ribbon color ... I wonder if this is difference was created by different manufacturers or was it intentionally (different "grades" for different amounts of donation for example...)
JapanX Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 Type II “Figured” Same text - different form of medal, different boxes and of course ribbon color`s “Turquoise ribbon”
JapanX Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 Only the obverse inscription is changed. Instead of Sampai (Shinto Prayer) we have Kinen (Commemoration).
JapanX Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 (edited) Another example of “Turquoise ribbon” in salty box Edited June 1, 2013 by JapanX
