JapanX Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Hmmm This one looks more like Chinese to me...
JapanX Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Let`s hope our colleagues will be kind enough to translate inscriptions on the box lid and medal reverse

paul wood Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 交通部電政一等二級獎章 - 1st class, 2nd grade medal of Administration of telegraph service of the Ministry of Communication.Oleg thank you very much for the information, I presume therefore it is an early republic piece, unusual to have plain silver medals in the Chinese series that's why I assumed it was Japanese.Thanks again.Paul
Jktu Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 You are welcome. /// I think - one of the recipients: http://www.cemconnections.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=70 1913 April, Medal of High Merit, 1st Class, 2nd Grade (Min. of Communications) 交通部一等二級獎章;
drclaw Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 It's stamped with #1 on the reverse. A truly extraordinary piece! Very different to the enamelled, cross-shaped Merit awards issued by the Ministry of Justice, Treasury, etc.
paul wood Posted November 15, 2013 Author Posted November 15, 2013 Interstingly according to the owner the medal is made of gold.Paul
JapanX Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Paul, are we talking about medal in post #1? Gold?!?
JapanX Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 By these photos I have serious doubts that it's even in silver
paul wood Posted November 15, 2013 Author Posted November 15, 2013 The scans were done by the owners daughter using very basic technology and very bad lighting.I will hopwfully have the piece with me in the New Year.Paul
