saschaw Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I've been today in Illingen. Actually, I'm going there to see and to learn and to have some nice talks, but if there's something to buy - well, why not. Three ribbon bars was it in total, a matching pair of two and a third one from a second seller - and with these ones, I think I know what the green ribbon has to be - on a RM wearer from Braunschweig: the Brunswick live saving medal as well as the Prussian! The combination is very simliar to Hauptmann von Grone's, but it isn't the same ... The third one is just a nice one with Hohenzollern House order and Austrian Iron crown - not too common on German bars.
Paul C Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 The bottom bar maybe tracable. What are there 3rd and 4th ribbons?
saschaw Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 The 3rd ribbon is for the Hessen Bravery medal, the 4th is an unusual and actually quite rare Austrian Order of the Iron Crown, 3rd class ...
Guest Rick Research Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 So that is a DOUBLE Lifesaving with the DEMENTEDLY RARE Braunswick one!!!!!!! And I have never been able to identify my SINGLE Brunswick ? ! But at least now I am ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that that is what my green ribbon is-- same STUPID low position as yours is in.So for that confirmation of where they were worn anyway!
saschaw Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 (edited) So for that confirmation of where they were worn anyway! It was a pleasure, immer wieder gerne ... As none of those bars has not even one single Baden award on it I think I might give them away again, but not n o w. If someone would like to get these, please offer me something "similar" from Baden ... or, if noone wants to give me some nice Baden stuff - just some money ... PS:Talking about "something similar": has someone ever seen a ribbon bar with Baden life saving medal?! Edited June 10, 2007 by saschaw
Guest Rick Research Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 "PS:Talking about 'something similar': has someone ever seen a ribbon bar with Baden life saving medal?" Funny you should mention that TODAY,because just at the exact second of the witching hourat the stroke of midnightby Command Performancejust for YOUme neither before (yesterday) now a drumroll for Sascha please.........Well, you DID say "ribbon bar." Where oh where oh where is the MEDAL!!!!!!!!!???????????????? Silver 1868-1882??? Small gold 1868-1882??? silver 1882-1908??? small gold 1882-1890??? Silver 1908-18??? Bronze 1920-1934 (120 MADE, but how many were AWARDED?)I would guess that this "Old Style"medal/ribbon bar was made after the war, because it is a tab back, and brass rather than wartime steel. But when did the wearer GET his (missing) medal??????
saschaw Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 Noooooooooo Rick, I want to see a laaarge ribbon bar, with at least eight to twelve awards! I think here matches a Republik type best as this is the only one which comes on a normal ring. Hang a normal Baden Merit Medal in it and look, where it hangs ... Unlikely they didn't change the hook for it to match better ...
Guest Rick Research Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 "...laaarge ribbon bar, with at least eight to twelve awards!"Greedy greedy greedy! 43 years for me to find a SINGLE! Do you have any numbers for how many were actually awarded? I only have the reference in von Hessenthal & Schreiber about how many of the 1920 type were manufactured.
saschaw Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 Greedy greedy greedy! 43 years for me to find a SINGLE! Well, that's how the youth is ... Do you have any numbers for how many were actually awarded? I only have the reference in von Hessenthal & Schreiber about how many of the 1920 type were manufactured.I've got numbers for all modells, but not for the last one. Volle gives as well just the "120 manufactured". I think most of them were actually awarded, let's guess about 100 ...
militaria0815 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Well, that's how the youth is ... I've got numbers for all modells, but not for the last one. Volle gives as well just the "120 manufactured". I think most of them were actually awarded, let's guess about 100 ...Following numbers out of the book of F. Beyrei?:1st type Friedrich I. (1868 - 1881): 4 golden, 46 silver medals2nd type 1882 - 1908: 4 golden, 128 silver medalsFriedrich 2nd 1908 - 1918: 68 silver medals.
