Ed_Haynes
While, in Mongolian awards as for the sibling Soviet awards, non-military awards seem to be consciously underappreciated (with the possible exception of the exotic herders' awards). We may need to ask which contributed more to the "progress" of the MPR: years of service in the army or hard work in developing the economy? In any event, I thought I'd start a thread on this one, prompted by the new acquisition below. Not only the new "low" but also, apparently, another example of phaleristic recycling (look at 4 o'clock on the reverse). As I tentatively guess at a typology of these:X 01 - Type 1.1 (numbered, screwback); Low = 81/High = 4254X 01? - Type 1.2 (numbered, pinback); Low = 541/High = ???X 02? - Type 2 (unnumbered) Much to learn, as always! fjcp
Found this one on Ebay the other day.Should we consider this a sub-variation?Serial number variations are so much fun JC Edited May 6, 2006 by fjcp
fjcp
I'm guessing that this is a type 2.Are the type 2s all painted or are there type 2s with enamel?
Ed_Haynes
This looks like a (new) type 3 or a "mule".
fjcp
This looks like a (new) type 3 or a "mule".It looks awfully similar to "X 02" but the suspension has a different "fingerprint" pattern on the suspesion which itself looks slightly different. Ed_Haynes
Right now, I have suspicions that the unnumbered ones may just be "escapees" and unawarded.
fjcp
Right now, I have suspicions that the unnumbered ones may just be "escapees" and unawarded.Hi Ed,I'm assuming you're referring to the 1.3 variation, correct?I went through a few boxes and I came across these two little docs, the one is numbered but I'm afraid I don't have the matching medal.First up though a set that Vatjan posted a year or two ago....JC

Ed_Haynes
Spoke (actually SPOKE!) with Bat today and he, too, has doubts about unnumbered badges in this series. The documents are, as we have seen, much more random.
Ed_Haynes
OK, it gets even more confusing.A very modern-feeling, lightweight, unnumbered item. The center and suspension are not blue but rather a blue-green color (much more "green" than "blue" though it may nopt scan that way).
